Report of Youth Advisory Delegate, Samantha Herman
REPORT OF YOUTH ADVISORY DELEGATE, SAMANTHA HERMAN,
I would like to express my gratitude to Trinity Presbytery for giving me the opportunity to serve as a Youth Advisory Delegate at the 183rd General Assembly in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
I served on the Children's Home and Historical Foundation committee with Chairman Rev. Jimmy Peyton from Hope Presbytery. On behalf of the Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home in Denton, TX, we heard from Richard Brown, the Acting President and CEO, LaToyia Dennis, the Vice President of Development, and Rev. Don Tabor, who serves on the Board of Trustees. They spoke of their goals for the future and the continuation of the Home. I learned of the Home's history and of the wonderful services they bring to the kids and families who are in need.
On behalf of the Historical Foundation, we heard from Susan Knight Gore, the director and treasurer of the Historical Library and Archives, Lauren Gam Gilliland, the archival assistant for the foundation, and Michael Fare, who serves on the board. They told us which types of items they accept, such as attendance records, hymnals and photographs, and they also passed around some of the artifacts they have already collected.
I had a wonderful time and made many friends that will last a lifetime. I learned a little of how our denomination's government works, and if I had the chance to go again, I certainly would. Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to represent our presbytery as a Youth Advisory Delegate at the 183rd General Assembly.
