General Assembly Report from Elder John C. Dougherty III
REPORT FORM GENERAL ASSEMBLY COMMISSIONER,
ELDER JOHN C. DOUGHERTY III, JEFFERSON
Sunday: we started with Orientation for the Commissioners then got checked in to the hotel. That evening I attended the Bethel University Vocal Authority Concert.
Monday: I attended two workshops. The first was HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND THE PLIGHT OF THE MIGRANT WORKERS. The second was CURRICULUM CHAT which told of the many resources for Church Sunday School.
At 2:00 pm we had Worship Service with Rev. Rush and the Vocal Authority sang. Afterword we had General Assembly and elected a new Moderator. Foster Prosser was elected.
At 4:30 pm we started our committee meetings. My committee was THEOLOGICAL/SOCIAL CONCERNS. We discussed unification of the CPC and CPCA.
At 7:00 pm we had a reception for the New Moderator and Past Moderator, also for the new Vice Moderator, President Elect and President of the Cumberland Women’s Ministries.
Tuesday: We started the day with a Devotional then a short General Assembly meeting. We then went to our committee meetings. We discussed things to be brought before General Assembly.
At noon I attended the Children’s Home luncheon., A short talk and slide presentation was given by the VP of Development Latoya Dennis. After lunch we went back to our committee room for further discussion.
At 5:30 I attended the Bethel University Dinner and the Bethel singers performed again. We heard from the president of Bethel who said he was retiring in July.
Wednesday: We had a Devotional in our committee room then started our business. We approved our work then signed off on it.
At 12:00 noon I attended the Memphis Theological Seminary luncheon.
At 7:00 we had a Devotional and Communion.
Thursday: The General Assembly began at 9:00am. We met until 11:30am the then broke for lunch. We went back to work at 1:30pm and finished our business about 2:30pm. Afterwards we had a Devotional and were dismissed.
The hotel accommodations were very nice and the staff was very friendly. Every morning the hotel served breakfast to order for all the guests which was very good.
